Governor Quinn Acts on 124 Pardons for Labor Day Weekend

8/29/2014

Today, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn decided on 124 pardon petitions, granting 38 and denying 86.  Some of the offenses that received the pardons included burglary, forgery, and various drug convictions.  Since taking office, Quinn has granted 1,113 petitions for executive clemency and denied 1,934.

As always, a congratulations must go out to those that had their clemency petition granted!  A lot of vetting is done to ensure that those who receive clemency have truly rehabilitated, so if you are lucky enough to receive it then it was well earned.  This Labor Day weekend will mark the beginning of the next chapter in your life without a criminal record.

Can anyone tell me, does the board notify you even if it is denied? My hearing was a year ago, so I know I may still have a long wait to find out. Are they working on 2009 petitions now then?

The Board will notify you (or your attorney) when the pardon is granted or denied. Make sure to keep them updated to any change of address.

Bryant, is there a standard time frame when notifications go out after pardons have been publicly announced? Ex: The last pardons were announced on 8/29. When would those that have been granted or rejected be notified?

I have always received the notifications within a few weeks of when they are decided upon.

I see any people asking where if any is a list online but no response. Is there such a place? Also you said these folks are notified within a couple of weeks. Is this by mail or do they get an email or call etc? Any info would be appreciated.

I do not know of any list online. The Prisoner Review Board will mail a notification, so make sure the Board has an up-to-date address for you or your attorney.

Has anyone heard Rauner comment on his policy towards clemency? I have already had my hearing over a year ago and with the election results wondering how it will affect those of us in the waiting-to-find-out category?
